Art at NKS
An art program constitutes the foundation for the artistic decoration of the new University Hospital. The art program is scheduled for release in Q1, 2012.
Stockholm County Council has traditionally placed great emphasis on artistic investment within the hospital environment, which has been shown to contribute to rehabilitation, according to research. The artistic decor of the New Karolinska Solna University hosptial will create a visually attractive environment, with enhanced building interiors and exteriors, both daytime and evenings.

The art includes art as fixtures, integrated in buildings, and movable artwork that can be disassembled and is flexible (such as paintings, design objects and small sculptures).
Within the framework of the art program there is a project group with representatives from the Stockholm County Council's Culture Committee, which is in charge of drawing up guidelines for the artistic decor of the NKS. Great emphasis is placed on coordination of design, construction and management.
This project group has worked with the comprehensive guidelines and on-site preparation of the NKS site where the existing sculptures will be moved. In 2011, efforts to create a detailed plan for how the artwork should be designed, continued. Announcements for art assignments will take place during 2012. The art project design work will continue until 2013.
The Council's Culture Committee's Arts Unit has developed a web-based service called The Artist Base, http://konstnarsbasen.kun.sll.se, where artists can easily apply to be assigned a design task within the county. By setting up an account at The Artist Base, you will receive information about upcoming assignments.
