The Construction Project
The New Karolinska Solna project is an enormous construction project, which was started in the summer of 2010 and will continue until the autumn of 2017. The new hospital facilities will consist of approximately 330 000 square metres total gross area.
The Solna City Council decided planning for the area in 2009.
The Stockholm County Council made an allocation decision for the PPP (Public Private Partnership) procurement on 8 June 2010, regarding the developement, construction, financing and service management of the hosptial buildning.
The PPP agreement was signed between Stockholm County Council and the project company, Swedish Hospital Partners AB, on 30 June 2010. The construction work run by Skanska Healthcare started directly afterwards with the establishment of the construction area immediately southwest of the Thorax building.
